Haida Gwaii Cancer Care
Care that meets you where you are — on the islands and beyond
The Haida Gwaii Cancer Care program has supported people on these islands since 2011, delivering community oncology close to home at Xaayda Gwaay Ngaaysdll Naay — Haida Gwaii Hospital and Health Centre in Daajing Giids. For many, that means treatment without leaving Haida Nation territory.
Some care — radiation, certain specialist appointments, more intensive treatment — requires traveling off-island, often to Prince George, Vancouver, or Victoria. That journey is part of the reality of living here, and it deserves to be planned with care and intention.
The Northern Health Eagle Transit medical shuttle connects Masset and Daajing Giids, with stops at Skidegate and Port Clements, for patients accessing off-island appointments. Reservations are required. BC Ferries links Graham and Moresby islands. Your care team can help coordinate what the journey looks like for you.

Community oncology has been delivered on Haida Nation territory since 2011. Chemotherapy and ongoing monitoring are provided locally, meaning many people on Haida Gwaii can receive treatment without leaving the islands. Your oncology team here remains your primary point of contact throughout your care — whether your treatment stays on-island or takes you to the mainland.
For services not available locally — including radiation therapy and certain specialist consultations — patients are referred to BC Cancer centres in Prince George, Vancouver, or Victoria.

Opened in November 2012, BC Cancer – Prince George was the first site in northern BC to offer radiation therapy. It provides radiation, chemotherapy, counselling, and nutrition services, with two linear accelerators on site. The centre sits on Lheidli T'enneh traditional territory, adjacent to the University Hospital of Northern BC.

If your care plan includes a trip to BC Cancer in Prince George, Renee's is close by. The boutique offers medical wigs and cranial prosthesis fitting, trichology, luxury headwear, and post-mastectomy garments — in a private, unhurried setting. Scheduling a visit during the same trip means one journey can serve more than one need.
Renee's is an independent, appointment-only boutique offering private support for the physical changes that can accompany cancer treatment. Services are available for women, men, and teens experiencing medical hair loss from chemotherapy, radiation, alopecia, or other causes.
